The Tesla, at 4,830 pounds, uses a tri-motor, all-wheel-drive system for relentless, computer-guided acceleration, to achieve a 9.23 second quarter-mile under perfect conditions—a mark few production cars can match. The Corvette, at 3,900 pounds with the ZTK package, channels its power through a rear-wheel-drive setup and an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. Chevy claims a 9.6 second quarter-mile, but nailing the perfect launch is tough with its gas-powered fury.

The Corvette has the largest turbochargers ever on a production car and a massive rear wing, trading some straight-line speed for track-ready downforce. Price tags show the difference: the ZR1’s handcrafted goodness costs $263,000, almost double the Plaid’s futuristic efficiency.
In the first run, the Corvette got a slight head start to offset its tricky launch. Both cars launched hard, neck and neck for a brief moment. The Tesla’s electric motors delivered with precision, a 1.48 second 60-foot time. By the 1/8 mile it was ahead, 5.99 seconds at 122 mph and 9.24 seconds at 150.58 mph. The Corvette, 1.57 second 60-foot and 0.075 second reaction time, 9.86 seconds at 140.84 mph—a close race on paper but a win for the Plaid on the strip.
In the second run the Tesla didn’t need a head start, 9.2 seconds again. The Corvette overheated from the first run struggled to 10.3 seconds. The third run was more of the same: 9.2 seconds for the Tesla, 10.2 seconds for the ZR1. Heat management was the key—the Corvette’s engine needed longer cool down periods, the Tesla’s electric system loved the pressure. All-wheel drive and instant torque was the difference.
The ZR1’s raw power and lighter weight made it competitive in theory, but the Plaid’s repeatable performance stole the show. Rumors of a hybrid, all-wheel-drive ZR1X with a sub-9.0 second quarter-mile hint at a future challenge.
