Nicolas Herrera has had a bit of a thing for Rivians trucks for as long as anyone can remember. As a transport designer, he gets to spend his days doodling on vehicles that juggle the ordinary with a spoonful of wow factor. His latest project, the R1TX, started as a what if question: what if the R1T, Rivian’s main electric pickup, decided to push the limits just a bit further?

To celebrate their second store in Miami, the new 4,000 square foot Mary Brickell Village location, Rivian has revealed the R1S Miami Edition. This electric SUV is an 80s car that references the city’s bold design and lasting cultural impact. It’s a car that combines modern performance with nostalgia to make something familiar and new.

Palo Alto, California, the city of innovation, has rolled out a first in American law enforcement: a Rivian R1S electric SUV converted into a police cruiser. Unveiled at Rivian’s headquarters, the Palo Alto Police Department skipped local giant Tesla (whose global engineering hub is just down the street) to be the first to try this out.

It’s official, the electric Rivian Commercial Van, the platform on which Amazon’s custom electric delivery van (EDV) is based, can now be purchased by fleets of all sizes in the US. This EV was designed from the ground up to prioritize safety, driver comfort, total cost of ownership and sustainability.

Watch out Tesla Model 3, the Rivian R3 subcompact EV is coming soon. Not many details were revealed during the press event earlier this week, but the company did say that this model demonstrates the scalability of their brand across different form factors while continuing to be immediately recognizable.
