United Airlines Relax Row Economy Class
Economy class on your next long-haul flight is going to get far less crowded. You know the drill: hours spent in a cramped seat with stiff legs and an aching back. United Airlines has devised a brilliant solution to this dilemma with their all-new Relax Row, a customized block of three seats that can be changed into a communal couch right in the middle of the plane.

When you book with the Relax Row option on qualifying flights, you will receive a special treat. When the seatbelt indicator lights up, each person can raise their own leg rest and lock it into position at a comfortable 90-degree angle. With the three seats combined into one large, flat surface, you can finally stretch out, change positions, or simply lounge about while watching your favorite movie on the seatback screen. It doesn’t matter if you have the entire row to yourself or if you’re sharing it with up to two pals; the Relax Row provides significantly more space than a typical economy seat.

United Airlines Relax Row Economy Class
Now, just because you find yourself in an available Relax Row seat without a reservation does not mean you are out of luck. Even if you do not receive the particular bedding and pillows, the leg rests will continue to function properly. They are only available to persons who have paid the upgrade cost. The good news is that the setup is really convenient. The Relax Rows are located just behind the premium economy area, allowing for convenient access to the front restrooms while avoiding the noise from the main economy cabin. United will install up to 12 of these rows on each plane, with the average likely to be closer to 9. The Relax Row is only available on their widebody jets, the Boeing 787 and 777, which are used for their longest itineraries.

The implementation begins in 2027 on some of their international flights, and by the end of 2030, the entire fleet of nearly 200 aircraft will be equipped with Relax Rows. Travelers flying from the United States to Europe, Asia, or South America will be the first to see this new option, while details on exact schedules will be worked out closer to the launch date. One thing is certain: United is the sole carrier north of the border with exclusive rights to this design, so it will not be on any other domestic airlines in the near future.
