In 2013 BMW created something special for the US market: 200 M3 coupes in Fire Orange, named after Connecticut’s famous Lime Rock Park racetrack. This was a celebration of the E92 generation’s final appearance, a car that carried the torch of BMW’s naturally aspirated V8 tradition before the brand went turbo.
The E92 M3, built from 2007 to 2013, won the hearts of enthusiasts for its combination of raw power and everyday usability. The Lime Rock Park Edition takes this formula and turns it into a collector’s dream. Only 200 of these coupes were made for the US, each one paying homage to the Connecticut circuit, famous for its tight turns and rich racing history. This car has a 4.0-liter V8, a high-revving masterpiece with 414 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Unlike the turbocharged six-cylinders that followed, this naturally aspirated engine sings with mechanical purity, redlining just shy of 8,400 rpm. With a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, it puts all that power to the rear wheels.
Inside, the cabin is a study in deliberate luxury, with Novillo leather wrapped around the seats and carbon fiber and leather trim on the dashboard and door panels. A flat-bottom steering wheel wrapped in Alcantara looks like it was plucked from a race car. The Lime Rock Edition came with the Competition Package, which added 19-inch wheels, lowered suspension and recalibrated stability and damper settings for sharper handling. With the Premium and Cold Weather Packages, this M3 combines track-ready performance with creature comforts like heated seats for cold mornings.
As the auction clock winds down, bidding has already surpassed $86,000, above the car’s original $80,295 sticker price. That number isn’t just for the car’s rarity, it’s for its place in BMW’s history.
