BMW Motorrad always gets attention and the new Vision CE concept is no exception. Unveiled ahead of the Munich Motor Show on September 8, 2025 it does more than just push boundaries, it redefines them.
Twenty-five years ago the BMW C1 scooter introduced a radical concept: a two-wheeler with a canopy and seatbelt so riders could go helmet free in some countries. The C1 never made it into production but its spirit lives on in the Vision CE. A metal tube frame, called the “cage” wraps around the rider, with a seatbelt and a specially designed seat with backrest and headrest. A metal mesh above the headrest adds extra protection. This creates what BMW calls a safety cell that protects the rider without the need for traditional motorcycle gear.

The Vision CE looks unlike any scooter. Its long, low stance and stretched wheelbase give it a substantial, almost architectural appearance. The cage is neither heavy or claustrophobic; instead, it is open and airy, with coated aluminum tubes that catch the light and exude raw sophistication. BMW keeps the color scheme basic yet striking, with matte white surfaces against black accents and bright red highlights that sparkle without overwhelming. Slim headlamps and roll cage mounted auxiliary lights give the front end a modern look, while a small windscreen and mid-mounted deflectors add utility. The seat is matte coated and has text interwoven into it; it would look more at home in a high-end showroom than on the street.

Underneath the Vision CE’s unique design is established technology from BMW’s electric scooter range, the CE 04 which has been a market leader since 2022. BMW hasn’t released any specific performance figures for the concept but the CE 04 has 42 horsepower and 130km range so that’s a good starting point. The safety cage will add weight which will probably reduce range or acceleration but it’s designed for short urban journeys not cross country trips. What sets it apart is the self balancing technology that keeps the scooter upright when stationary. No more foot down moments at traffic lights or wobbly starts for new riders – this technology makes the Vision CE accessible to people who have never ridden a two wheeler.

BMW expects customers to personalize their scooters with extras such as a removable Bluetooth speaker, a clear canopy for weather protection and a rear baggage rack for added convenience. All of this points to a vehicle that’s about the journey not just getting from A to B. A large digital display anchors the cockpit, which is surrounded by classic handlebars and large footrests that give the rider a comfortable, confident stance. A covered charging port keeps everything clean, as does the scooter’s sleek, purposeful design.

BMW’s track record suggests the Vision CE is more than just a concept car. The CE 04 and CE 02 both made it from concept to production so they are serious about electric urban mobility. The Vision CE feels like a natural progression, continuing the C1’s helmet-free philosophy while adding modern electric tech and a new face. If it goes into production the covered canopy could be a big selling point, giving better weather protection and validating the helmet-free claim in some areas.
