Delta4x4 and Capricorn Trucks teamed up to fit this Mercedes G-Wagen with Mattracks, which is a high-utility rubber track conversion system that replaces ordinary wheels. This increased the G500’s height to a whopping 17.4-inches, and since the 88M1-A1 snow tracks are made from highly durable fibre-reinforced rubber, it can handle temperatures as low as -40° F.
Unfortunately, it also added 1,500-pounds to the G-Wagen, which isn’t a bad thing, considering the recommended speed on snow or ice is 40 mph or slower. Power comes from a twin-turbocharged 4.0L V8 engine that makes 416 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque, mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission, enabling it to hit 60 mph in 5.6-seconds on regular tires. However, these snow tracks did require 50mm Eibach springs for a smoother ride. Since this isn’t a mass produced kit, the owner had spend $149,000 USD for this conversion.
