Hunter RMV Predator 4×4 Expedition Vehicle Wants to Take You Into the Wild

A vehicle that can take you to the edge of the map and keep you comfortable is a rare find. The Hunter RMV Predator 4×4, built on an Acela Monterra chassis, is exactly that—a machine that combines rugged capability with the livability of a modern home. This expedition truck is for people who want to go to remote places without sacrificing the comforts of daily life.

Hunter RMV started in 2015 when founder Keith Storey couldn’t find a vehicle that met his family’s needs for off-road adventure and comfort. So he built one. That first prototype, a behemoth on a military chassis, was the beginning of a company that would turn surplus military platforms into expedition vehicles. The Predator 4×4, completed in April 2024, is one of their best work. It’s built on a remanufactured Stewart & Stevenson M1078-A1 cargo truck chassis, sourced from Acela in Bozeman, Montana. This isn’t an RV—it’s a custom job, designed to go where most vehicles can’t and offer a home-like experience for long trips.



Powering this 30-foot long monster is a 7.2-liter Caterpillar 3126 turbodiesel inline-six engine, 330 horsepower. Paired with a seven-speed Allison automatic transmission, it sends torque to a full-time all-wheel-drive system with high-speed gearing. It can handle sand dunes to icy backroads. With 48-inch Goodyear all-terrain tires and a central tire inflation system, you can adjust tire pressure on the fly to suit the terrain. A 110-gallon fuel tank gives it over 800 miles of range, so you can go far—really far—without needing to refuel. Add 23 inches of ground clearance and a deep-water fording kit that lets it wade through 50 inches of water and you’ve got a vehicle that can go almost anywhere.


Inside, the Predator 4×4 feels like an apartment not a truck. The 15-foot habitat box is designed for all-season travel with 125 gallons of fresh water and a 35-gallon heated gray water tank for extended off-grid stays. A reverse osmosis filter for clean drinking water and a Truma diesel heat and hot water system for cold climates. The kitchen has a granite countertop, two-burner induction cooktop, stainless steel Isotherm fridge and freezer and a large sink. Storage is plentiful with custom cabinetry and a locking gun safe for security. A queen-sized bed for a proper place to sleep and a second sleeping area for another person. Two Max-Air fans and a mini-split air conditioner to keep the interior comfortable no matter the weather outside.


What makes this rig special is the attention to the little things. A 5-foot motorcycle elevator can lift 1,200 pounds so you can bring bikes or heavy gear. The outside has a full-size spare tire that can be hydraulically lowered for one-person changes, a Traeger grill on ball-bearing slides and a 360-degree Baja Designs lighting system. Power comes from multiple sources: 1,220 watts of solar panels, 800 amp-hour lithium battery bank, shore power, battery-to-battery charging from the engine and two 2,200-watt Honda generators. A Starlink in-motion Wi-Fi satellite and a WeBoost cellphone booster so you can stay connected anywhere. For safety there’s a 360-degree camera system and a train horn to alert others on the trail.


Driving something this big—30 feet long, 7 feet 8 inches wide and 12 feet 7 inches tall—sounds intimidating. The Predator’s 188-inch wheelbase is roughly the length of a Jeep Wrangler so it’s not as bad as it sounds but it’s still a beast in tight spaces. The air brakes and Meritor MX17-140 front axle rated at 17,000 pounds gives you confidence on rough terrain but this isn’t a vehicle to zip through city streets. The 25,950-pound gross vehicle weight rating means you’ll need a commercial drivers license in some areas which could be a hurdle for casual adventurers. At $395,000 it’s a big investment but Hunter RMV says it’s a fair price for a custom built rig that combines military durability with luxury.
