GMC Hummer HEV Peak Concept
A young designer from GM China, Sun Hao, has created a Hummer for the electric age. His GMC Hummer HEV Peak concept, a project from his internship, takes the brand’s heritage into a future where capability meets imagination.

Sun Hao’s vision starts with a front end that looks like the current GMC Hummer EV range. Big grille bars and vertical attitude mean that it’s a Hummer for sure, but the HEV Peak deviates with a two-door body, reminiscent of the 2008 Hummer HX concept—a smaller, more agile off-roader that never made it to production. This is a spiritual successor, but with an electric twist. A scale model, built by GM’s China Advanced Design Center, brings the idea to life, proving this is more than just a digital dream, but a real concept with real potential.

The exterior is bold, starting with an upright windshield that cuts through the air like a blade and ending with a flat roof that gives the SUV a boxy, industrial look. Carved fenders wrap around big wheels, implying the vehicle can go anywhere. The back is angular and windowless, with a slim light bar and a tough bumper that looks ready to take on the toughest trails. What makes the HEV Peak stand out are the doors. At first view, they appear to be composed of glass, giving off a futuristic, almost transparent appearance. A closer examination reveals two configurations: one with ordinary lower panels and one with a central beam with glass above and below, which combines style and structural intelligence.

Stepping inside, the cabin resembles a stripped-down sci-fi cockpit. The emphasis is on simplicity, with clean lines and high-tech elements that prioritize function above style. An oval-shaped steering wheel with an integrated display anchors the driving experience, putting control and information right at your fingertips. A big screen spans the top of the dashboard, hinting that it will function as both an infotainment center and a passenger display. It does not overwhelm; rather, it encourages, producing an environment that feels both cutting-edge and approachable, ideal for travelers who respect simplicity as well as innovation.

The most interesting bit is the variable wheelbase, a solution to the eternal problem of off-road agility vs on-road comfort. A shorter wheelbase is better for tight trails, a longer one for longer journeys. GM calls it “one vehicle, two states”. We don’t know how it works, but we love the idea of how it could change the SUV game.
