UAE’s National Center of Meteorology recently uploaded a video showing artificial rain created by cloud seeding operations. That’s right, the heavy downpours are an important part of the government’s mission to generate precipitation, which has an average rainfall of just four inches per year.
So far, the UAE invested $15-million in nine different rain-enhancement technologies, including cloud seeding drones engineered by the University of Reading. Put simply, these drones hit the clouds with an electric charge while firing chemicals such as silver iodide, subsequently charging the droplets inside, resulting in the monsoon-like weather you see in the video. The combination of rain and strong winds caused poor visibility on roads as well as created difficult driving conditions.
