Driving NIO Firefly EV Launch
Firefly, NIO’s third brand, rolled out its first car in China today (April 19, 2025). It’s a fancy, small car meant to go up against BMW’s Mini and Mercedes-Benz’s Smart, aimed at city folks who care about style, safety, room, smarts, and saving energy.

This little five-seat hatchback is 4,003 mm long, 1,781 mm wide, and 1,557 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,615 mm. It can turn in a tight circle of 4.7 meters, perfect for city streets and narrow European roads. Designed by NIO’s Kris Tomasson, it has unique “trio” round headlights and taillights, giving it a look similar to the Honda e.

Driving NIO Firefly EV Launch
The Firefly runs on one electric motor from NIO’s XPT team, putting out 105 kW (141 hp) and capable of hitting a top speed of 150 km/h (93 mph). It’s got a 42.1 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery from Sunwoda, giving it a range of 420 km (261 miles) on the CLTC test. The battery works with NIO’s battery swap system, with test swap stations planned for busy Chinese cities and plans to connect with NIO’s fifth-generation stations later.

The Firefly has a wide center screen and a small dashboard screen, like NIO’s ET9 and Onvo L60. Its driving help system uses Horizon Robotics’ Journey 5 chip (128 TOPS, no LiDAR) for L2+ assisted driving, which includes parking on its own.
