Freedom Fit Outs Built a Mercedes Sprinter Van That Masters Off-Grid Living

Freedom Fit Outs is a Northern New South Wales based converter with a reputation for making extended van travel actually livable, and their latest build on a 2025 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter with all wheel drive, a 170 inch wheelbase, and a high roof is one of their most impressive yet. The roof carries a Wedge Tail Adventure rack loaded with four 200 watt solar panels and a Starlink antenna, with a skylight and a Maxxair vent fan keeping fresh air moving through the cabin, and exterior lighting handling after dark duties at camp

The interior strikes a clean and contemporary tone with white shiplap running across the walls and ceiling and wood effect vinyl underfoot, all tied together with smart laminated cabinetry. A dividing wall creates a sense of separation between the living area and the driver’s cabin without fully closing things off, with a sliding door connecting the two. Behind that wall sits an L-shaped lounge made up of two benches and a Lagun table, practical for meals or working on the road, with one bench extending out to serve as an outdoor table when parked up. Storage is well thought out throughout, with a full height closet offering hanging space and drawers alongside a removable shelf on the opposite side. Lift the bench near the entrance and a drawer style Engel fridge and freezer is waiting underneath.



Kitchen counters run along the driver’s side in a generous L shape toward the rear, with a deep black stainless steel sink fitted with a cutting board cover, under cabinet LED lighting, and two Sirocco swivel fans keeping the air moving. Four drawers, three overhead cabinets, and an under sink cabinet handle storage, and a custom herb garden built into the counter comes with its own watering tap for fresh ingredients on longer trips. Above the lounge a HappiJac elevator bed lowers or raises at the touch of a button, with sensors preventing it from coming down on anyone unexpectedly. Fully lowered it becomes a comfortable sleeping area with a skylight overhead for stargazing and reading lights within reach. Raise it all the way up and the lounge converts into a two person workspace with a swivel table.


Heating and cooling sit neatly under one of the lounge benches, with a Truma Combi D6 handling both warm air and hot water and an under-mounted Truma air conditioner taking care of warmer days. A touchscreen display tucked inside one of the overhead cabinets controls everything from climate to lighting, fans, and water tanks. The bathroom occupies the rear left of the van and can be accessed from inside through a swing door or from outside through the rear doors, giving you flexibility depending on the situation. Micro cement walls and black fixtures give the space a refined finish, and inside you get a small sink, a handheld shower with a flexible hose, a storage niche for essentials, and a Maxxair Dome vent fan to pull moisture out quickly.


Power comes from a 24 volt electrical system with a 700 amp hour lithium battery bank, the largest Freedom Fit Outs has ever fitted into a build. Victron manages the whole system through a 3,000 watt inverter and charger, with the battery replenished by the roof solar panels, shore power when available, or a DC-DC charger tied to the alternator while driving. A dedicated Victron touchscreen keeps tabs on battery levels, solar input, power consumption, and tank status at a glance. Security is handled by an Australian made WiTi anti-theft system that responds to any break-in or theft attempt with brake locks, owner alerts, flashing lights, and an alarm, with front and rear dash cameras adding an extra layer of peace of mind on the road.
