Gulfstream’s G300 Unveiled, is a Super-Midsize Jet That Quietly Bathes the Skies in Luxury

Gulfstream officially unveiled the G300 last month, a super-midsize business aircraft designed to replace the long-running G280. With 300 G280s delivered since 2009, the pressure was on to create something that honored the past while moving forward.

The engines fire up with the familiar punch of twin Honeywell HTF7250G turbofans, each producing 7,624 pounds of thrust. These are the same engines as the G280. They propel the G300 to a top speed of Mach 0.85—652 mph—while burning fuel thanks to the wing design that slices through the air like a knife. At Mach 0.80 the G300 will go 3,600 nautical miles—New York to London or Los Angeles to Tokyo without stopping. At Mach 0.84 that’s 3,000 nautical miles—enough for most transcontinentals. The climb is quick: 14 minutes to 43,000 feet from sea level, even fully loaded. You’re above the weather and into smooth air at 45,000 feet max.



Short runways are no problem for a jet designed to move between big hubs and tucked away strips. Under normal conditions the G300 will take off at max gross weight after 4,780 feet above sea level. That opens up airports that were previously out of reach for this class. Burns stressed this versatility during the event, showing a picture of a machine that can do transatlantics one day and fast regionals the next. The wing and engine combo means fuel efficiency without sacrificing smoothness.



Inside the cabin is the longest in the super-midsize category and can seat up to ten people across two living areas. Configurations are flexible to fit the mission—divan in soft gold and tan for lounging, single seats and a fold-out table for meals or meetings. At night it switches to sleep mode and converts miles into restful hours. Ten oval windows let in plenty of natural light and a plasma ionization system cleans the air for 100% fresh circulation. Pressurization is also top-notch—the cabin is equivalent to 4,800 feet even when the aircraft is at 41,000 feet, reducing body strain on high altitude flights and setting a class standard for comfort.


The Harmony Flight Deck greets pilots with six touch screens that seem like trusted extensions of their hands rather than technology. Drawing from the configurations found in Gulfstream’s bigger brothers, the G500 and G700, it has Phase-of-Flight intelligence to guide decisions at every stage of flight. Synthetic vision shows runways and topography in 3D on the primary display, and under low-visibility conditions. The Predictive Landing Performance System adds another layer by projecting the exact spot on the runway in real time to avoid overruns. Head-up displays focus the user’s attention by combining raw data with intuitive signals. For pilots moving up from larger Gulfstreams, the transition will be as simple as flipping a switch.


Pricing starts at $28.7 million, which is the engineering that goes into every inch. In an industry where margins are thin for everyone but the top tier, the G300 is positioning itself as a smart investment – large-cabin amenities in a medium aircraft without the big footprint. Gulfstream’s Savannah campus is booming, with 15,000 employees, up from 100 in 1982, and 500 positions still open.
