Nissan Leaf Superbike Engine Mod

A Nissan Leaf and superbike aren’t exactly synonymous, that is unless…you’re talking about Derek Young’s creation. He started with a 2013 Nissan Leaf that had a seriously degraded battery, so what better way to fix the issue than by picking up a Kawasaki ZX-10R engine?

That’s exactly what he did, and the process of swapping in the 1.0-liter, 174-horsepower engine began. The biggest issue was finding a way to getting the engine to power the Leaf’s rear wheels, and that is where a Lexus IS350 subframe comes in. After countless hours of work, including custom fabrication, fiddling with the electronics, and then getting the chain from the engine tensioned properly, he became the owner of quite possibly the world’s first superbike-powered Nissan Leaf.
