Shaq’s Corvette C8 Z06 is a 20-Inch Stretch for a Larger-Than-Life Legend

Shaquille O’Neal is 7 feet 1 inch tall and 325 pounds. He doesn’t fit in with the average population. Clothes, furniture and cars are often too small for the NBA icon. His latest car, a custom Chevrolet Corvette C8 Z06, addresses that issue in a bold yet subtle way. Effortless Motors in Riverside, California built this Corvette which has been stretched 20 inches to fit Shaq’s big frame. It’s the longest C8 in the world, a one off supercar for a one off man.

Effortless Motors had a tough task: make a low slung, mid engine supercar big enough for a man who’s bigger than most professional athletes. The solution was to stretch the chassis 20 inches, mostly behind the doors, to create a cabin with enough leg room for Shaq to sit comfortably. The outside however remains stock looking. Most people wouldn’t notice the extra length unless they parked it next to a regular C8. The stretched proportions blend in with the Corvette’s lines and stance.


Under the hood is the same 5.5 liter naturally aspirated V8 as the regular Z06, delivering 670 horsepower and 460 lb ft of torque. It rockets from 0 to 60 mph in 2.6 seconds, conquers the quarter mile in 10.5 seconds, and has a top speed of 195 mph. The stretch doesn’t compromise the drivetrain or weight balance much so the car still has its supercar soul. Subtle custom touches like Superman logos on the wheels and Shaq’s dunking logo in red on the black floormats add personal flair without overwhelming the design.


Effortless Motors said delivery would be 2-3 weeks in March but the project went into September. On delivery day the custom side windows cracked during transport and the handover was delayed. Replacement windows, made for the extended doors, took 7-8 days to make. Shaq was frustrated but patient and finally got the keys in early September. He drove with the removable hardtop off to accommodate his height. Whether the roof can be installed with him inside is unclear as the low roofline is a challenge even with the added length.



Building this car wasn’t easy, as Effortless Motors said 2-3 weeks back in March and it took till September. Shaq’s car adventures are a reflection of his larger than life personality. To make room for this Corvette he parted ways with a Tesla Cybertruck, a Dodge Charger Hellcat and a modified Chevrolet Silverado. The Cybertruck went to NBA player Trenton Watford, the Hellcat and Silverado to a 16 year old who paid in cryptocurrency – a transaction as wild as the car itself. Shaq’s collection is rumored to be over 40 custom cars and he’s not afraid to go to extremes for comfort and style. From a convertible Ferrari F355 to a modified Cadillac Escalade he’s not stranger to bending machines to his will.

This Corvette could have been a showpiece, adorned with slogans or bright colors but Effortless Motors chose elegance. The stretch is bold but modest and the modifications are personal but not excessive. Shaq calls himself “Diesel” the only 7-1 guy driving a Corvette like this. He’s excited in the footage as he’s in a car built for him. For car enthusiasts it’s a reminder that even the most impossible dreams – like fitting a giant into a Ferrari – can become a reality with enough innovation.
