Inventor Sergeii Gordieiev, best known as “The Q” on YouTube, has built a custom split-wheel bike that actually works. More specifically, it has two half-wheels rather than a single back wheel. How so? First, he needed to trim a couple of rear wheels in half, while still keeping the hubs. Next, tire sections were cut to match.
After the rear wheels were trimmed and tire sections cut, the next step was recreating the inner tube using PVC pipe-like material. Refitting the disc brake and rear sprocket after seems like a breeze compared to the previous steps. The first half-wheel was put back on the bike before the extended rear triangle was welded onto the back. The most important was keeping the wheels in sync, and Gordieiev most certainly accomplished that feat.
