The fully autonomous Hyundai Trailer Drone has won the Red Dot Design Concept 2022 award and received the ‘Luminary’ honor, the highest level of recognition. This hydrogen-powered container transportation system can operate autonomously and is capable traveling 1,000 km on a single charge, comparable to existing systems.
This concept was designed to enable diverse applications using e-Bogies, similar to the wheel subframe that can be found under every train car. Put simply, Trailer Drone is a unique commercial mobility solution in which a trailer is placed on two e-Bogies, letting it to rotate in a narrower radius than a general trailer. Unlike conventional tractors that are designed for container transportation, Hyundai’s solution offers a multi-purpose platform capable of unlimited business applications.
- The F30 delivers a speed up to 15.5 mph, and typical range of 18.6 miles. The 300W output provides plenty of torque-on-demand, helping you conquer up to a 15 percent grade slope.
- Comfortable and Safe Ride: Equipped with a front-wheel mechanical drum brake and a regenerative electric rear brake, the dual brake system ensures a safe ride. With a regenerative braking system recycled energy from riding.
- Improved Riding Experience: The 10 inch tires, with superior shock absorption, make your ride smoother and more stable even on bumpy terrain.
Red Dot has yet again recognized our efforts to transform into a smart mobility solution provider with visionary designs based on diverse technologies. In particular, Trailer Drone is an important model that shows our vision for fully autonomous, hydrogen fuel cell-based commercial vehicles. This Luminary award celebrates the passion and efforts of our designers and engineers to make the dream of zero-emission mobility come true,” said SangYup Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of Hyundai Global Design Center.
