We’ll start off with the bad news, the BMW M2 Racing is a track-only race car designed for customer racing programs, not a production vehicle for public roads or a one-off creation. That said, it starts at just €98,000, a bargain for those interested in starting their own race team.
It’s the next step after earlier beginner race cars like the BMW M235i Racing, M240i Racing, and M2 CS Racing, made for both amateur and pro racers. It’s built to be affordable and strong for motorsport, acting as a starting point for moving up to fancier GT4 and GT3 racing classes.

The M2 Racing has a race-ready 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-6 engine (S55) that puts out 313 horsepower or more, depending on the setup, along with racing parts like a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, an adjustable rear wing, and safety features approved by the FIA.transmission, adjustable rear wing, and FIA-approved safety features.

Priced from €98,000, the M2 Racing is BMW’s most affordable race car, undercutting rivals like the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport (€165,000). A lower-power B48 engine could further reduce costs, but no BMW documentation supports this shift, and the S55’s proven motorsport pedigree (used since 2014) makes it more likely.

With the BMW M2 Racing, we’ve succeeded in bringing an entry-level customer racing model to the track that combines driving pleasure, performance, and particularly intuitive handling. The development was carried out in close collaboration between BMW M Motorsport and experts from series production. The result is a powerful race car that combines easy operation with low running costs. This efficiency makes the BMW M2 Racing particularly attractive for grassroots motorsport – and makes racing even more accessible for customers,” said Björn Lellmann, Head of Customer Racing at BMW M Motorsport.
