Electrogenic has just launched a new plug-and-play kit that turns the Mazda MX-5 into an EV. More specifically, it adds a single elelectric motor generating 160 hp and 229 lb-ft of torque, enabling it to accelerate from 0-60 mph in a respectable 6 seconds, or at least for those who autocross.
Its 42 kWh battery is good for up to a 150-mile range on a full charge and it can be recharged in about 1-hour. One caveat: it adds 220-pounds to the vehicle, which means the MX-5 EV weighs in at 2,425-pounds. There’s no word yet on pricing or availability, but anything north of $20K may have some auto enthusiasts thinking twice, especially since used Tesla Model 3s are going for sub-$20K.
