Emirates has rolled out a new Premium Economy seat that runs on electric power and includes a full-height privacy screen between every seat. It arrives first on the airline’s newest Airbus A350s and marks the first time a seat in this cabin class can raise or lower a solid divider with the press of a button.
The cabin interior can seat 28 passengers in a 2-3-2 configuration. Each seat is 20 inches wide and provides a comfortable 39 inches of legroom. When you’re settled in, the seat folds back into a comfortable cradle that doesn’t intrude on the space of the person behind you. From there, you may use the built-in control device to convert it into a couch or a meal tray, or you can adjust the angle manually if you want.

What really sets this apart is the remarkable privacy screen, which extends to the entire height of the seat and then locks into place at any height you specify. So elevating it makes a wonderful little bubble for when you need some quiet time or to catch some Z’s. Lowering it allows you to enjoy the view again when you want to converse or share a moment with someone. Here’s the thing: this is the largest electric divider of its kind in any Premium Economy seat, to my knowledge.
The U-Dream headrest by Safran Seats provides optimum support for your neck and head. The leather bits fold up into various places, allowing you to lean against them for reading or resting, and there’s also a small leather footrest you can pull out by hand to protect your legs from feeling worn and knackered on lengthy flights.
They’ve also updated the Premium Economy charging options. So you can place your phone on the wireless charging pad and not worry about the cables. Every seat also has a USB-C connector, and the tray table has a built-in phone holder that you can use to turn your personal device into a second screen, which comes in useful whether you’re watching anything or waiting for dinner to be served.
The entertainment system, which features a 13.3 inch 4K HDR touchscreen, is also rather nice. The new A350s provide several more outside views in addition to the standard feed, allowing you to see the globe on either side of the plane as well as the view directly front. For long-haul flights, you also get a nice little reusable amenity kit, which this year is built from bio-based materials, making it a little more environmentally friendly. The kit has some great details, such as a United for Wildlife-themed design, and inside you’ll discover some Aveda plant-based skincare products, as well as socks, an eyeshade, earplugs, and a dentistry kit.
