Geely’s EVA Cab, the first robotaxi built from the ground up for driverless operation in China, is a real head-turner. The moment you see it on the show floor, you can’t help but be attracted in. The EVA’s lines run smooth as silk down its body, giving it a compact yet roomy feel that comes to life in the midst of congested city streets.
A strong, almost menacing shark-shaped nose leads the way up front, where brilliant headlights sit high and a digital display panel waits to flash some messages to anyone passing by. Wide electric sliding doors glide open effortlessly, with handles neatly tucked away into the panels. The bottom bits have a protective plastic coating, and the glossy black trim gives some excellent crisp lines that draw the eye just nicely. There’s a lot of glass around the sides and roof, making it feel like you can see in all directions. At the back, the rounded curves come together with a spoiler, a display screen, and some nicely aerodynamic wheels.

Sliding doors like this make entry a snap, and within, four seats await travelers. They’re set so that you face each other across the cabin, giving the voyage the feel of a shared space where you can converse or stretch out without being stuck behind a wheel. There’s a lovely big console in front of the two front seats, but it folds flat for more legroom. The full interior has a pleasant feel to it, with solid wood trim and door panels with a subtle pattern that draws the eye. You also have armrests inspired by the flow of water and a glass ceiling that lets in plenty of natural light. There’s even a screen that tucks away when not in use, and an AI assistant is available to handle any requests you may have. Every detail of the cabin has been carefully picked to seem quiet and friendly, even on the busiest commutes.

The EVA Cab is all about autonomy; 43 sensors and cameras work together to provide you with a 360-degree picture of the environment around you, with no blind spots. The true star of the show, however, is a 2160 line digital LiDAR unit capable of seeing up to 600 meters ahead of you. That gadget generates over 25 million data points per second, going into a processing infrastructure with more than enough capability to manage it all. You’re looking at 3,000 TOPS of processing power, courtesy of three high-performance NVIDIA and Qualcomm CPUs. Reaction times are reduced to four milliseconds, allowing the car to adjust faster than any human could. The software that handles everything has been specifically designed for this car, allowing it to manage challenging situations such as unsigned roads and tolls. On top of that, the system uses quantum-level encryption to keep your data and connections as secure as houses.

Quantum encryption protects your cloud connections, ensuring that your keys, updates, and data are not intercepted. Oh, and it has all the fancy features like crab walking, tight twists in place, and rear-wheel steering to help you get through those tight spots in congested locations.
