Hyundai Ioniq V EV China
Hyundai just shared new technical details on its China-only electric fastback, and the numbers stand out right away. The Ioniq V carries two relatively small lithium iron phosphate battery packs yet posts some of the strongest official range claims in its segment. Deliveries start later this year in China, giving buyers there a fresh option built around efficiency rather than sheer battery size.

Its silhouette draws your attention first, with sharp creases, a characteristic slanted roof, and an elevated stance that transform the car into a somewhat unusual blend of current fastback and daring design experiment. However, the overall profile remains compact enough to easily fit into city streets, and the lengthy wheelbase suggests that there must be plenty of room for people and freight inside.

Hyundai Ioniq V EV China
The first series will consist of two versions. The entry-level model has a 53.5-kilowatt-hour battery and a single motor that generates 188 horsepower. Official Chinese testing puts the range at between 520 and 540 kilometers, however I’m not sure how that translates in real terms yet. Moving up to the larger battery pack increases output to 225 horsepower and extends range to a maximum of 650 kilometers on the same test cycle. If we do the arithmetic, that equals around 404 miles. I found those data in Hyundai’s filings with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Both batteries are supplied by CATL and are very light for their size, with the smaller weighing roughly 395 kilograms and the larger weighing around 465 kilograms. The curb weights of the whole cars will vary depending on the type, but they are expected to range between 1,707 and 1,808 kg.

The vehicle has an 800-volt electrical design, which is characteristic of rapid charging stations, though I’m not sure what top speeds the Ioniq V can achieve just yet. Hyundai has not released any details about full charging curves or session times. Inside the vehicle, a single 27-inch display covers the whole dashboard, combining driver information and infotainment controls in a single smooth sweep. They also collaborated with their local partner, Momenta, to develop a driver assistance system. The cabin is simple and gives the driver a wide field of view. Pricing has been kept under wraps for the time being, although it will most likely fall into the competitive entry-level market once official data is released. There is also talk about an extended-range powertrain model in the future, however specifications are unknown at this time.
