The Land Rover Vesper is probably one of the most intriguing custom vehicles on the roads today. A genius from Helderburg, who specializes in revamping old land rovers that you might think were beyond rescue, took a tough-as-nails Defender D110 with an interesting history and turned it into a flawless beauty with all the features you’d hope for in one.
This particular Defender was owned a few years ago by a Czech architect named Lucas Varga, who used it on a daily basis in the early 1990s to haul large items such as rocks and wood. This was all part of his endeavor to restore his ancestral home, and the defender endured all of the agony without complaint, demonstrating his incredible strength. Years later, this remaining defender still had hope in its eyes and was picked by its new owner in Big Sky, Montana, to undergo a complete makeover by Helderburg, which came at a high cost of $448,700.

They opted to paint it a rich, dark sapphire blue, the same hue as the owner’s Bentley Flying Spur, which appears almost black on rainy days but has a stunning blue undertone once the sun comes out. Onlookers frequently question whether it is black or blue. It was not simple to achieve this level of shine, especially since the panels were removed, given a high gloss wet paint finish, and then flawlessly reassembled.

Hand-cut vents that significantly enhance airflow have added aggression to the Puma hood. The Vesper has the distinct appearance of a vintage Defender: boxy, tall, and full of purpose, with every component on the car shining like new, adding to the overall image.

Inside, it is the pinnacle of luxury, or at least as exquisite as Bentley Mulliner’s detailing allows. The interior is entirely over the top, with diamond-stitched leather throughout. It is undeniably a tactile atmosphere, a vast cry from the original. There is a lot of aluminum work on the dash and doors, which looks great in the light, but don’t get me wrong, the Vesper has all of the utilitarian attributes that a genuine utilitarian vehicle need, such as a level load bed that enables for the simple insertion and removal of 4×8 plywood or sheetrock.

The Vesper is powered by a turbo-diesel version of the Mark 3.5 powertrain, which has been tuned for increased highway speed and off-road performance. There’s plenty of torque on hand before it runs out; the exhaust sounds have just the proper amount of snarl without being too irritating; and the suspension setting is perfect regardless of the terrain.
