In September 1995, Bugatti Automobili in the small Italian town of Campogalliano officially closed its doors. Before you knew it, creditors were pouncing on suppliers who had abruptly stopped supplying parts. One of the rarest vehicles Bugatti has ever produced simply disappeared into thin air amid all the mayhem.
On March 30, 1994, the chassis with number 39021 was taken off the assembly line. For the suppliers that manufactured its carbon fiber body and all the intricate internal workings of its drivetrain, chassis number 39021 was converted into a showcase model. Since it was kept out of the main assembly hall, the Super Sport was able to complete its final testing at a supplier’s workshop when the factory locked down. The car was formally accounted for, but the bankruptcy trustees were unable to locate it, to the point that it was never properly registered anywhere. The item was kept hidden for almost 25 years.

Since Bugatti only ever produced thirty EB110 Super Sports in total, collectors were aware of the numbers. Each one had a 3.5-liter V12 engine with four turbochargers and sixty valves, and it weighed 150 kg less than the ordinary model. With a permanent all-wheel drive system, the power output reached an astounding 603 horsepower.
In 2019, the car made an appearance in Munich, Germany. Its odometer showed less than 300 kilometers. The interior was clad in Grigio Scuro leather and had a deep, seemingly unmodified Blu Bugatti paint job. B Engineering, a company formed by a number of former Bugatti personnel, took on the recommissioning project. The original Bugatti engineers Federico Trombi and Gianni Sighinolfi worked their magic to bring the quad-turbo engine and transmission back to factory specifications without touching a single bolt or hose.
After winning Best in Class at the Quail during Monterey Car Week in 2022, the Super Sport went on to perform at Amelia Island in 2023. What are you aware of? The owners did not make any of the flamboyant changes that some might have. The vehicle still comes with the original manual, tools, and Certificate of Conformity. It is most likely the model with the lowest mileage now on the road, if not the only one, with 674 kilometers on the odometer.
Owners will now have the opportunity to acquire this historical artifact. Chassis number 39021 is on a no-reserve sale its route to the Mecum Indy 2026 auction in Indianapolis on May 16, where it will be sold as part of the M Group Collection.
