The Netherlands’ regulators have now approved Tesla’s FSD Supervised system for usage on public roads, marking a first for any European country. This marks the end of an 18-month wait, after the Dutch vehicle regulator RDW spent literally years evaluating and analyzing the software’s data.

Officials looked at the program with a careful eye, categorizing it firmly as a driver control assistance system, and only issued their approval once they were satisfied that the requirements had been followed. Tesla promises to deliver the update to owners in the Netherlands very soon, with the rollout based on software version 14.2.2.5 paired with the most recent car software. Early adopters will be able to obtain the system as part of an ongoing or new subscription or purchase. Before using the system, people must go through a brief safety check. This includes watching a film that explains how everything works and then completing a quick quiz to ensure they understand the guidelines. This is just one way Tesla is keeping customers aware of the system’s limitations and on their toes.
The car’s sensors monitor the driver’s eyes and will alert them if their concentration begins to wander, which might be through sound, visual alerts, or even moderate tremors to refocus their attention. If the driver ignores these warnings, the system will pause to ensure that they do not become complacent. Meanwhile, you do not need to have your hands on the wheel, but you must keep your eyes on the road. It took months of careful checks for EU regulators to give the thumbs up, but it appears that the end result was worthwhile. Tesla clocked up approximately 1.6 million kilometres of test driving on local roads during the development process, as well as thousands of controlled tests and a plethora of feedback from customer rides.
