Volkswagen has officially unveiled the ID Polo. This is an electric vehicle intended to replace the gas-guzzling Polo and become the company’s smallest model. Europeans can expect to see this tiny EV on the roads starting in the spring of 2026, with prices starting at 25,000 euros.
It’s no wonder that this car is easy to park, given its modest size. The ID Polo measures 4,053 mm long, 1,816 mm wide, and 1,530 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,600 mm. On the outside, it looks pretty similar to the present Polo, but on the interior, everything is a whole lot better to say the least.

The most notable modification is that this vehicle now uses front-wheel drive on the revised MEB+ platform. This creates a lot more space inside where the engine and gearbox used to be. You notice the extra room since there is 19 mm more interior length, which makes a huge difference for passengers in the back. Not only is there more space, but there is also more headroom, and the car is slightly wider. It’s not difficult to fit five adults in, which is unusual for a car of this size. The boot space is also larger than the original gas-guzzler, at 435 liters with the seats still up, a 24 percent increase. When you flatten the back seats, you have 1,243 liters of space, which is ideal for running errands or taking a weekend getaway.
The entry-level model comes with either 114 or 133 horsepower and a 37 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery. The more expensive variants have 208 horsepower, and a GTI will follow later with an even more astonishing 223 horsepower. Those larger motors connect to a 52 kWh nickel manganese cobalt battery with a cell-to-pack architecture, allowing you to pack more energy while weighing far less. This results in a reasonable range; even the stronger battery version may travel up to 450 kilometers on the WLTP cycle (about 280 miles). The smaller battery options cover shorter distances but can easily handle most commutes.
Charging speeds are adequate, with the smaller battery capable of accepting up to 90 kW DC fast charging and the larger one accepting 130 kW. It takes about 23 to 27 minutes to go from 10 to 80 percent, which is really convenient. If you’re charging at home, the maximum speed is 11 kW.
Volkswagen is keen to emphasize that the ID Polo will be the first of a slew of affordable electric vehicles. With its practical size, decent range, and highly affordable pricing, it will make electric driving easy and accessible to a large number of people. Sales of the ID Polo begin in late April 2026, which is a significant step toward getting a lot more people electrified.
