Olivier De Schrijver works as a furniture designer in Belgium, but he decided to try something completely different: build a perfect replica of the 2005-2006 Ford GT, scaled down to a super accurate miniature and built almost entirely out of wood.
De Schrijver dedicated an amazing 4,000 hours to the project. Every curve and line of the supercar was carefully hand-carved and shaped from hardwood parts. The finished model weighs around 1,500 pounds and measures 174 inches long, 74 inches wide, and 45 inches tall, exactly the same measurements as the original Ford GT.

A coat of varnish covers the entire surface, giving the wood a super-smooth, glossy finish that highlights the grain. The doors swing open and close on hinges, as you would expect. Of course, all of the other elements are included, including headlights, taillights, side mirrors, rear louvers, exhaust outlets, and side vents that have been expertly carved to fit the original design. The windshield and side windows are constructed of very ordinary acrylic panels.

Those wheels, however, are perhaps the most detailed. He carved them from wood, including the rims, braking rotors, and even the tires themselves, and was able to make the tread patterns on the tyre surfaces look nice and lifelike. Steel supports hold everything together; the revolving hubs allow the model to roll smoothly, and the front wheels steer via a linkage to the steering wheel within.

Inside the wooden body, there are a variety of other wooden elements, including bucket seats, dashboard, center console, door panels, shifter, pedals, and even speakers, all carved from a single block of wood. The three-spoke steering wheel appears to be in good working order, and the wooden gauges in the instrument cluster are remarkable. The floor is carpeted in black to add some contrast.

Steel axles bolt to a pair of hardwood beams that constitute the primary frame, providing structural integrity without adding much extra weight on top of the wood. As for why De Schrijver chose the Ford GT, he simply thought that building a car would be more enjoyable than producing another table or chair! This is the type of stuff you’d expect to see in a showroom or a large garage, catching the eye from all sides.

This gem was just listed on Bring A Trailer in a no-reserve auction. De Schrijver’s work demonstrates what happens when someone with the necessary abilities and patience puts in the effort; it’s a truly outstanding job. The wooden Ford GT rolls along silently, waiting for its next owner to arrive and take it home.
