This 2017 Ariel Nomad Tactical with 508-miles on the odometer is essentially a tough, go-anywhere buggy put together by TMI AutoTech in South Boston, Virginia. It’s built with a tubular steel exoskeleton made from laser-cut, drawn-over-mandrel (DOM) steel with bronze-welded joints and aluminum bulkheads. That’s Ariel’s way of making things strong but not heavy.
Instead of an engine up front, it’s got one in the back—a supercharged 2.4-liter Honda K24 inline-four. When factory fresh, this engine could pump out 300 horsepower, mated to a six-speed manual gearbox and a limited-slip differential that helps it grip the ground. The seller says it has a shorter final drive than usual and a performance clutch kit, which means it’s set up to speed up fast and handle quick turns.

By design, it’s a buggy—a lightweight, open-frame vehicle built for off-road performance with its tubular steel exoskeleton, high ground clearance, and adjustable Öhlins suspension. It’s got the rugged DNA of something you’d take dune-bashing or trail-riding, complete with features like a winch and BFGoodrich all-terrain tires.

But it’s also street-legal. This particular 2017 model is registered in California, titled as a Specially Constructed Vehicle, and comes with a clean California title. It’s equipped with enough road-going equipment—like a heated windshield, turn signals, and lights—to meet legal requirements for on-road use in many places. Ariel designs the Nomad to straddle this line, offering a road-legal platform that still delivers an unfiltered, off-road-capable experience.
