In Back to the Future, Marty McFly rocked a Gibson ES-345 electric guitar at the 1955 Enchantment Under the Sea high school dance, but this custom Time Machine bass by Doner Designs might have been more fitting. The Chicago-based father and son duo created this to pay tribute to the Michael J. Fox movie franchise, especially the time-traveling DeLorean, complete with flashing lights, a selectable destination year display and a flux capacitor.
What can this bass guitar do? For starters, it features a Warmoth body / neck, a Nordstrand pickup, Audere preamp, Babicz bridge, Hipshot tuning machines, ReRanch nitrocellulose lacquer finish, and an Axetreme Creations pickguard. When all was said and done, it took around 300 hours of work over three years.

Although the bass was very much inspired by the BTTF films, there are no direct references to the films or Delorean in any of the materials or on the bass itself. We even changed the 1.21 gigawatt warning on the back to say 1.22 gigawatts,” said Doner Designs.
