BYD may not be a household name in North America, but they are the largest EV maker in mainland China. The YangWang U8 electric SUV aims to take on the Tesla Model X Plaid, Mercedes-Benz EQG as well as the Land Rover Defender EV, and it’s definitely no slouch. Power comes from four electric motors in each wheel that generate over 1,100-horsepower and 1,200 pound-feet of torque combined, enabling it to hit 62 mph in 3-seconds flat.
It’s built on a ladder frame chassis and features sleek LED headlights, an illuminated grille, split LED taillights, as well as 20-inch alloy wheels. We know that it comes equipped with BYD’s Blade battery, but no capacity or range figures have been provided. Pricing is expected to begin at around $145,000 USD when it’s released later this year.
