Camper vans and trailers just don’t cut it for serious off-roaders and that’s where the Epicore Action Van steps in to handle the tough stuff. Pichler Nutzfahrzeuge, an Italian builder based in South Tyrol, builds this beast on an Iveco Daily 4×4 chassis.
With a gross vehicle weight of 7 tons, its 3.0-liter diesel engine produces 180 horsepower via an eight-speed automatic, more than enough for the rural roads. Its all-wheel drive arrangement includes front and rear locking differentials, leaf springs, and Marquart shocks for tough terrain. The usual wheelbase is 348 cm, however it may be extended to 418 cm for longer models. When closed, it is 640cm long, 225cm wide, and 3.3m high.

A single-piece living module in deep blue is made of 35mm-thick fiberglass sandwich panels. Four 150w solar panels on the roof recharge a 480Ah battery. A 3,000w Victron inverter provides electricity, which is supported by a 220amp alternator and a 70amp booster. Controls are handled by a 10.9″ iPad with the Revotion smart system, which also includes a Wi-Fi router and LED lights throughout.

This van’s main feature is rear access. An electro-hydraulic tailgate with a 750kg capacity drops completely down. Airline tracks inside keep bikes upright throughout transit and then drop them to ground level for easy unloading. When the tailgate is open, it creates a deck where you may sit over mud or pebbles, or even a dock by the sea. Inside the garage, rails on the walls and ceiling contain stuff such as paddleboards and tools.

A shower sprayer cleans muddy boots or people on a drained floor covered in rubber mats. A Boxio dry toilet emerges from a cabinet, and an electronic roller wall separates the area. A kitchen block in front of that contains a sink, a portable induction cooktop, and a utensil tray with flush lids for a level surface. Flip-up extensions add countertop space and can also be used as a workbench. A 70-liter Dometic refrigerator at the end for fast access from the garage or lounge.Front seating consists of two captain’s seats on rails that can be swiveled or faced sideways as desired. Cab seats join in, and Lagun tables adapt to any configuration. An electric pop-up roof adds two double beds, each measuring 135cm x 200cm and separated by a ladder. Diesel heaters heat both levels.

Pichler can create unique layouts upon request, and a smaller variant based on a 3.5 ton MAN TGE 4×4 is currently in development. According to Explorer Magazin, the starting price is €390,000 ($451,000).
