Ferrari Amalfi Spider Reveal
The Ferrari Amalfi Spider is a convertible that creates an impression without even trying. Built on the back of their Amalfi Coupe, which was released less than a year ago and replaced the Roma Spider in the lineup, this open-top model manages to strike the perfect balance between a super-comfy ride and razor sharp performance, but now comes with the added bonus of a folding fabric roof.

Even with the top off, the designers managed to keep the coupe’s sleek, smooth lines intact. It’s a body that appears modern while also feeling timeless. A new color, Rosso Tramonto, has been added to the mix, with its warm, sunset orange hue of the Amalfi Coast providing a subtle touch that changes depending on the light. The soft top, comprised of 5 layers of acoustic fabric, folds up in 13.5 seconds and can reach speeds of up to 37 mph.

When you pop the top down (or up), you have 172 liters of boot space in the back. The rear seats can be used to store gear or to lift smaller passengers, and if you’re going really fast (up to 106mph in this case), the wind deflector pops up from the backrest with the touch of a button, reducing buffeting and keeping everyone on board nice and comfortable.

The 3.9 liter twin-turbo V8 engine is a powerhouse, producing 640 horsepower at 7500 rpm and 760 Nm of torque between 3000 and 5750 rpm. Ferrari engineers really put the pedal to the metal to make this one fast, fitting new turbos with independent management, lighter parts, and a unique low-viscosity oil, all of which adds up to a considerably sharper delivery without sacrificing smoothness. In this example, the rear wheels are powered by an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Its performance stats are also impressive, with a 0-62mph time of 3.3 seconds and a top speed of 199mph. The car weighs 3430 pounds on the scales, 190 pounds more than the coupe due to various reinforcements and the roof system, which is a lot heavier than you’d expect, but the performance difference isn’t as significant as you might imagine.

Ferrari’s recent improvements have resulted in some very impressive handling. The active aero incorporates a 3-position rear wing, which adds 110 kg of downforce at speed while also reducing drag. However, the brake pedals have a reassuringly accurate feel, and the updated side slip control system is completely compatible with the redesigned Manettino modes (Wet, Comfort, Sport, Race, and ESC-off), allowing you to adapt your response to the road conditions. Then there’s the adjustable dampers and super-fast electric power steering, which all add up to an extremely athletic ride on twisty roads while also holding its own on prolonged drives.

Inside, all of the best features are at the driver’s fingertips: a 15.6-inch digital cluster sits boldly in the center, accompanied by a 10.25-inch touchscreen that controls all of the entertainment, climate, and settings. There is also an 8.8-inch passenger screen that can indicate revs or G-forces for you. In addition, you can choose between a screen and some really neatly done fabric trim to match the outside. Nice & tidy.

This Spider is ideal for anyone looking for something a little more laid back from Ferrari, as its open top design allows you to feel the wind in your hair while remaining fast enough to put a smile on your face and quiet enough for a daily run around, plus it will turn a few heads wherever you go. The Spider should be available in showrooms shortly, and when it does, expect to pay at least $300,000, though this figure will most likely fluctuate depending on the extras you choose.
