Can’t wait for the next Fast & Furious? Well, a Florida highway probably isn’t on your checklist, but that is exactly where this scene unfolded, involving a Toyota Supra. It basically tore through the Gandy Bridge at a blistering 93 mph in a 55 mph zone.
Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) troopers were patrolling the Gandy Bridge when their radar caught the Supra’s speed. The driver, behind the wheel of a fourth-generation A80 Supra—only about 47,000 of which were ever made—ignored the trooper’s attempt to pull them over. Instead, they floored it, starting a pursuit that would soon spiral into an auto enthusiast’s worst nightmare.

As the trooper gave pursuit, the driver weaved through the night with no safety on their mind, before he a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver was executed. In this case, the Supra spun into a light pole, and will most likely not be able to be restored back to factory condition.
A driver’s reckless choice, a trooper’s split-second decision, and a car’s legendary status collided in a moment that was as fleeting as it was destructive. The Supra’s wreckage now serves as a cautionary tale, one that resonates beyond the asphalt of the Gandy Bridge.” One thing we still do not know is why the driver didn’t just pull over, but in time, we’ll probably get an answer.
