Moviegoers still remember when Brian O’Conner arrived in the original Fast and Furious film’s loud, eye-searing brilliant green Mitsubishi Eclipse in 2001. This automobile appeared fast just sitting there, thanks to its colorful decals and souped-up upgrades. LEGO has now turned that identical rollercoaster into a Technic set with the number 42229, allowing fans to build it from the ground up.
This 827-piece kit creates a finished model that is 12 inches long, 3.5 inches tall, and 5 inches broad. You’ll have to pay $65 for it, but that’s a very reasonable price since you’ll be able to build something far more detailed than simply snapping on some standard bricks. You can already pre-order it, with shipping starting on June 1st.
LEGO Speed Champions 2 Fast 2 Furious Nissan Skyline GT-R (R34), Race Car Toy Model Building Kit, Collectible with Racer Minifigure, 2023 Set for Kids, Boys and Girls Ages 9 and Up 76917
- Fast and Furious fans can relive thrilling moments from the 2 Fast 2 Furious movie with this LEGO Nissan Skyline GT-R (R34) model car building kit
- Inspired by the real-life version, the toy race car model features iconic stripes on the side, a wing at the back and a grille on the front
- LEGO Speed Champions and Fast and Furious fans will appreciate the impressive wheel arches and the nitro fuel canister on the passenger seat
The build is loaded with features that will make you feel like you’re working with a car straight out of a movie. For example, when you move a small knob on the roof, the front wheels spin smoothly as expected. If you lift the bonnet, you’ll notice that the engine block has moving pistons; just turn the crankshaft slightly and they’ll start clanking away. If you open both doors and raise the boot, you can see the inside details. There are also two NOS bottles concealed in the boot, which will be a great touch for lovers of the film’s racing sequences.
Stickers cover the eye-catching paint job and early-2000s graphics that made the actual Eclipse stand out on screen. They’re placed exactly where you’d expect to see them on the car’s bodywork. That’s particularly significant because it’s the first time Mitsubishi has debuted as a licensed automobile brand in the LEGO roster, which should appeal to anyone who like cars and collects them.
The model comes together rather easily owing to Technic beams and pins. If you get stuck, the free LEGO Builder app can help, as it will walk you through every stage of the process and even allow you to invite a couple of people to join in on the fun if you want to make it a project for yourself and your friends.
