Rain slicked the Strada Borromea on Mottarone mountain last week, umbrellas dotted the roadside, and a low orange coupe with a mid-mounted V8 barked its way up the nine-kilometer stretch of Italian hillside. The Genesis Magma GT Concept, still officially a design study, proved it can do more than sit pretty under show lights. It rolled out for its first proper dynamic outing at the 2026 Tutto Bene Hillclimb near Lake Maggiore, sharing the closed course with 84 other exceptional machines in an event that skips stopwatches and rankings in favor of pure driving pleasure.
Genesis debuted the Magma GT late last year at Paul Ricard, gave it a makeover at Le Mans in June with a more plush interior, and eventually got it on the road at Tutto Bene. The video from the race shows the car’s wheelspin at the outset until the twin-turbo 3.2-liter v8 settles into a steady cadence as it navigates the 51 hairpins. They must have drawn a lot of inspiration from the Hyundai four-cylinder and the new hybrid unit racing in the GMR-001 LMDh, as the end result is roughly 800 horsepower. That puts the mid-engined coupe on par with a Corvette or a Ferrari 296, but Genesis has yet to reveal the full specifications.

On the same tarmac as the Magma GT was the X Skorpio Concept, a wild off-roader constructed on a tubular frame that was making its European premiere at the same time. André Lotterer, fresh from collecting those vital points with the Magma Racing team, drove the Skorpio up the slick Italian tarmac, where it, along with the Magma GT, demonstrated Genesis’ more aggressive performance objectives all at once. They also displayed the genuine GMR-001 race car and a boxy prototype known as a Box Buggy, which all added up to a rather clear statement.

Tutto Bene is more of a casual meet than a racing event, as it is a static exhibition set in some of the most magnificent Alpine scenery you can imagine, organized by the guys at Race Service and BorromeodeSilva. Classics, prototypes, and one-offs all came together in a really relaxed atmosphere, and the Magma GT looked quite at home in that setting, cutting a line with its very low nose, wide fenders, and soft swoop of a roof even with rain dripping off the paint. As for when we may anticipate it, production schedule is still unknown, but some believe it will arrive before the end of the decade, and there are already rumors of roadster and track versions on the way. For the time being, the Magma GT has done little more than establish its claim, demonstrating that it is a proper speedy vehicle capable of finding traction on a wet Italian road.
