Some people with serious money still chase ever-larger traditional superyachts. Others look at the same bank balance and choose something smaller, quieter, and far more practical. The HBY 140 SolarYacht from SolarYacht in Brandenburg, Germany, sits in that second group. Measuring 20 meters long and 7 meters wide, it offers 140 square meters of living space built as an aluminum trimaran. Base price starts at 595,000 euros. Fully equipped examples have listed around 830,000 euros.

Glass panels surround the complete living level, providing 360-degree panoramic vistas. Daylight permeates every area, and the view is same whether you’re in the open kitchen, lounging in the salon, or moving to the master bedroom. The layouts are loft-style, with aluminum-framed windows that allow you to tailor your living environment to your liking. The usual layout includes a large open living and kitchen area, a master bedroom with its own bathroom, and at least one other sleeping area. Some configurations include three bedrooms and two full bathrooms, with ample sleeping space for six people, as well as a fireplace stove as part of the overall interior package.

What actually differentiates this boat is its solar-panel-covered roof, which measures 100 square meters. The standard solar package includes four panels, a 5 kWh battery bank, and a 5 kW inverter from Victron Energy, but you can upgrade to six panels with 10 kWh of storage or twelve panels with 20 kWh. From April until the end of October, the system will provide you with the freedom to live off the grid most days without relying on shore electricity. Furthermore, you have the option of water filtration and biological wastewater treatment, which allows you to reduce the number of trips to the dock required for basic services.

They kept propulsion simple and flexible. Twin Yamaha 60-horsepower gasoline outboards come standard, but you can upgrade to electric 48-volt or higher-output engines. With two bow thrusters and one stern thruster, as well as an electric anchor, docking and positioning are a breeze, even if you only have a regular small-vessel license. The boat is meant for lakes, rivers, and canals rather than the open ocean, and with a shallow one-meter draft, it can get into peaceful locations that larger boats cannot.

There is plenty of outdoor living area, specifically three terraces. Up on the rooftop, you may transform it into a sun-kissed private beach club with lounge chairs, an outdoor grill and barbecue, a dining table, a cocktail bar, loungers, and a whirlpool, with the option of glass railings or something simpler. Down below, wide decks at the bow and stern provide even more places to sit and enjoy the ocean.

If you want to customize, there are several options available both inside and out. To retain seclusion, consider installing a sauna, bathtub, home cinema, Jacuzzi, smart home controls, and even reflecting white glass. All of this may be incorporated into the construction process at the Brandenburg shipyard. They only produce a small number of boats every year, ten to fifteen, so you get the attention you deserve. Founder Arkadiusz Radziejewski and his team remain focused on aluminum hulls, steel structures, and full glazing, all of which are registered under German design protection.
