Infiniti will present the QX80 R-Spec, a customized QX80 with 1,000 horsepower, during the 2025 SEMA Show. Engineers removed the regular 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 and replaced it with a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 from the Nissan GT-R, tuning it far beyond factory specs. Every panel is painted Midnight Purple, which shifts from deep purple to dark blue when light hits it from different angles.
This power output is provided by Garrett G-series turbochargers, which replace the factory units. Twin front-mount intercoolers cool the air, while ETS exhaust manifolds route the exhaust gasses through a bespoke system that ends with blue-tipped outlets. A flex-fuel configuration uses a high-capacity Fuel Lab pump to supply 2,600-cc injectors. JE pistons, Boostline connecting rods, and ARP nuts strengthen the engine block. The MOTEC management system controls fuel, ignition, and boost.

GT-R carbon-ceramic brakes stop the SUV, and custom caliper adapters as well as rotor hats match the larger QX80 dimensions. An MCS three-way coilover suspension lowers the ride height and sharpens the corners, while Eibach ERS springs support the weight.

The wide-body kit includes flared fenders and side skirts. Front and rear diffusers control airflow. The redesigned fog lights and badges use GT-R design characteristics. The grille is stock, but with a darker finish. Inside, the cabin has the standard QX80 layout. The leather seats, wood trim, and huge center screen remain the same. Regardless of engine output, the cabin remains quiet thanks to sound insulation.

The SUV weighs roughly 6,000 pounds, yet has a power-to-weight ratio comparable to many sports cars. 0-60 mph is rapid. On a prepared surface, the quarter-mile times are in the low tens. The maximum speed is over 200 mph. Tiago Castro, Infiniti Americas VP, says the goal was to build an exciting automobile without sacrificing comfort. That’s what the QX80 R-Spec does. The roadway provides a smooth daily commute. Track days are exact.Midnight Purple represents the SUV’s GT-R origins. The color was first used on the R34, and then on special R35 versions. Bronze wheels are similar to the forged wheels on high-performance Nissans. When the engine is under heavy load, the blue exhaust tips glow.

The suspension has three damping levels, and engineers retained the regular nine-speed automatic transmission while strengthening the internal components, with paddle shifters responding almost instantaneously. All-wheel drive transfers torque from front to rear as needed. The safety features of the standard QX80 are carried over. Automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and lane-keeping assist are available at all speeds. The IIHS gave the base model a Top Safety Pick+ rating.
