Mat Watson of CarWow recently got behind the wheel of Ken Block’s Audi S1 Hoonitron, the same one you saw performing stunts around the Las Vegas strip, and pit it against an Audi S1 Quattro rally car in a drag racing showdown for the ages.
The S1 Hoonitron is powered by dual electric motors making 670 hp and 472 lb-ft of torque, connected to a 50kWh battery pack. As for the 1985 S1 Quattro rally car, it comes equipped with a turbocharged 2.1L 5-cylinder engine producing 493 hp and 354 lb-ft (480 Nm) of torque, mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox that sends power to all wheels. One thing to note is that the Hoonitron weighs in at 3,571 pounds, while the Quattro rally car tips the scale at just 2,403 pounds. Let’s just say that despite the weight difference, modern technology can be much quicker if packaged correctly.
