Porsche Engineering Polaris RZR For Sale Auction
An odd tale that blends Porsche Engineering’s accuracy with off-road ruggedness is built around a 2018 Polaris RZR XP Turbo S. The unique prototype was purportedly constructed covertly by Porsche’s technical division. Such development vehicles, which are never intended for public view, are typically smashed or hidden away in a museum. Here it is, however, a street legal oddity that is registered in Arizona, waiting for someone to claim its crazy heritage.

Start with the basics: a 0.9 liter two-cylinder engine, 168 horsepower through a CVT. That’s standard RZR stuff. But everything else about this vehicle is unusual. Porsche Engineering stretched the chassis, using parts from a 4 seater RZR to give it a longer, more stable footprint. A huge rear wing sits over the back, not just for show but to pin the rear during high speed runs. The seats are from a 997 generation Porsche 911 GT3 RS, mounted lower than stock to lower the center of gravity. The dashboard is lower too, creating a cockpit that feels more like a race car than a dune basher.

Suspension is handled by a custom KW Automotive setup, with 18 inch wheels that give the RZR a planted stance. Power steering? Gone. Porsche swapped it out for front hubs from a Volkswagen Passat. The brakes are equally eclectic: front brakes from an Audi R8 supercar, calipers from a Porsche Cayenne S. This isn’t a parts bin raid, it’s a deliberate mix of high performance parts, each chosen to sharpen the RZR’s edge. And then there’s the drivetrain. Unlike its all wheel drive siblings, this RZR sends power only to the rear wheels.

A roll cage surrounds the occupants and a relocated fuel cell, a nod to its racing heritage. Street legal in Arizona, it has a registration that allows it to go beyond the trails, but it’s not without its quirks. The tires are the original 2018 tires and need to be replaced. The dashboard lights up with warning signals, a reminder it’s a prototype. The speedometer is broken and the exterior has the battle scars of testing – paint chips and scratches from hard driven miles.

Driving this RZR must be like being in two different worlds at once: the unadulterated, wild world of off-road exploration and the engineering precision of Porsche. Imagine it speeding across the desert in Arizona, the GT3 RS seats supporting you while the rear wheels throw up dust. What happens when two worlds clash is a rolling testament, and the winner will gain the keys to a one-off.
