A worn 996-generation Porsche 911 shell arrived at Gary Reid’s workshop with little more than boxes of parts. Over two thousand hours later it emerged as the ShowTime Repco-Mod 933, a car that places a twin-turbo 7.0-litre LSX V8 under the bonnet and sends more than 1,200 horsepower to the rear wheels alone.

Reid, ShowTime’s brand ambassador, has always had a variety of tastes. On the one hand, he loves Porsches, but on the other, he can’t get enough of American V8s. Then he was given a very simple brief: relocate the engine forward, put on a wide body kit, and build something that not only looks fantastic but can take a beating on the stunt circuit.

Whether you like it or not, replacing the original flat six with a Dart-block LSX required removing the old firewall, redoing the floor, and installing a totally new transmission tunnel. The engine still stands out quite a bit, resulting in a large hole in the carbon fiber hood. To top it all off, twin Turbosmart turbochargers sit at the front of the engine package, while unique exhausts blast out of the bonnet and can be opened to expose some flame action when stomped on. A Haltech R5 VCU, attached to a couple of snazzy digital screens, controls the fuel, which is E85.

Of course, the stock Porsche gearbox was incapable of handling all that torque, so they installed a seriously heavy-duty eight-speed ZF 8HP unit nicked from a Bentley and outfitted with sequential shift capability (i.e. you fiddle with the gear lever a little more than you used to). The power is transferred to a bespoke motorsport rear end. Cooling is now handled by a couple of radiators hidden behind the back seat, which can be accessible through a single piece rear window and hatch, essentially transforming the car into a hatchback. All held together by an integrated roll cage.

Externally, the aluminum wide body kit is made up of over 280 individually hand-forged pieces. The roof, bonnet, and doors are all carbon fiber, which is a wonderful touch. On the back, there’s a large wing with a shark fin reaching up to the roof line, all of the headlights and taillights have been replaced with newer ones from a late model Porsche, and a few of STEDI auxiliary lights have been installed up front. Rotiform wheels are 18 by 9.5 in the front and 18 by 10 in the back, and are wrapped in high-quality Dunlop rubber. The color is Sandy Taupe, which is a Toyota Land Cruiser color, but it has additional flair thanks to red, black, and blue accents on the turbo intakes, brakes, wheels, and cage.

Inside, there are two Recaro seats upholstered in the characteristic Porsche black and white Pepita fabric. The steering wheel is fully motorsport-style, and a digital instrument cluster sits in front of it. Two large carbon levers emerge from the center console, one for sequential shifting and the other for regulating the hydraulic handbrake on the rear wheels. Sound deadening and heat shielding materials prevent the inside from becoming a total oven.

Then there’s Repco, which isn’t just here for the sponsorship. They have a long history in Australian motorsport (Brabham F1, for example), so it’s only right that the 933 made its debut at Mount Panorama ahead of the 2026 Bathurst 1000. After the initial show circuit, this beast will be back out doing its thing as part of ShowTime’s stunt fleet, attending all of the major automotive culture events in Australia.
