Kicking off at RMB 195,800 ($27,320), the Xpeng G7 slides in $9,500 cheaper than its American rival, the Tesla Model Y, setting up a heated battle in China’s massive EV market. This sleek mid-size SUV sparked a wildfire, with over 10,000 orders locked in just nine minutes after its launch.
The G7 rolls up as a mid-size SUV, stretching 4,892 mm long, 1,925 mm wide, and 1,655 mm tall, with a 2,890 mm wheelbase. It comes in three variants: 602 Max, 702 Max, and 702 Ultra, with two battery options—a 68.5 kWh pack for a 602 km CLTC range or an 80.8 kWh pack stretching to 702 km. All models have a single rear-wheel-drive motor pumping out 218 kW (292 hp) and 450 Nm of torque, hitting 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds. No all-wheel-drive here, but the G7’s 800-volt setup and 5C charging tech can recharge it from 0 to 80% in just 12 minutes. Paired with durable lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries from CALB, it’s ready for both daily commutes and long road trips.

Hop inside, and the G7’s cabin greets you with an 87-inch augmented reality head-up display (AR-HUD), built with Huawei, splashing navigation, speed, and road info right onto the windshield. It’s a first for Xpeng, with lane-level guidance and real-time driving cues that make low-visibility conditions like fog or rain a breeze. The cockpit, powered by one of three in-house Turing AI chips in the Ultra model, responds in a snap to voice commands or climate tweaks. Xpeng’s vision-language models (VLM) take it up a notch, guessing what you need—whether it’s the best route or auto-adjusting settings for you.

Self-driving is where the G7 really shows off. The Ultra model packs three Turing AI chips, delivering a jaw-dropping 2,250 TOPS of computing power—blowing past the 508 TOPS from the two Nvidia Orin X chips in the Max versions. Xpeng says this makes the G7 the first ride ready for L3 autonomy, a huge leap toward next-level self-driving. Its vision-language-action (VLA) model lets the SUV make split-second calls, just like a human would.
In the ring with the Tesla Model Y and Xiaomi YU7, the G7 holds its own. It’s $8,050 cheaper than the YU7’s RMB 253,500 starting price, with way more computing muscle (2,250 TOPS vs. 700 TOPS) and a similar range. Against the Model Y, its lower price and cutting-edge AI make it a tempting pick for tech heads, though the single-motor setup and lack of a dual-motor option might turn off speed junkies chasing the Model Y’s dual-motor zip.
