Kugel Werks One Eleven Mercedes W111
Kugel Werks in Los Angeles has transformed the exquisite silhouette of a 1960s Mercedes-Benz W111 coupe into a completely modern vehicle. The finished car retains the long hood, vertical grille, slender pillars, and sweeping roof that marked Paul Bracq’s original design, but almost everything beneath and behind those lines is from a contemporary high-performance Mercedes.

Wider fenders allow the body to accommodate gigantic 20-inch alloy wheels, which, by the way, take their distinctive shape from AMG designs. The former chrome bumpers have been replaced with new body-colored ones, which add a nice sense of depth to the bottom edges thanks to the deeper side skirts that run underneath. The exterior has glossy black trim, and new LED headlights and taillights complete the appearance, offering a contemporary feel while keeping classic lines. Do not ignore the dual exhaust outlets at the back. The end effect is a car that appears lower and wider than any original W111 model. It obviously has an assertive presence, but it also retains its instantly recognizable shape, which is a nice balance.

Underneath, every One Eleven gets to sit on the entire platform of the last Mercedes-AMG C63 S coupe, the W205 model produced between 2016 and 2022. That particular donor car provided us with the suspension, brakes, electronics, and structural foundations, so we basically had everything we needed to make this thing handle like a modern performance coupe rather than a six-decade-old relic.

As you might expect, power comes from the MIA, the same 4.0 liter twin-turbocharged V8 that propelled the C63 S from 0 to 60 in record time. This one still produces 510 horsepower and a massive 700Nm of torque, all of which is sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed AMG Speedshift MCT automatic transmission. All that, plus the quickness and exhaust noise you’d expect from a V8 C-Class before Mercedes switched to hybrid four-cylinder engines.

Photos of the inside have yet to be released, but it seems very similar to the C63 S donor car, with the same digital displays, dashboard layout, seats, and so on. However, choosing your own inside trim is where you may have the most fun. You can mix and match leather, Alcantara, wood, and carbon fiber to your heart’s delight, so each interior is truly unique.

Not surprisingly, one of these costs $480,000 (before customization). They will almost certainly be in short supply. Production will be purposefully limited, with each vehicle built to order, and the first automobiles are slated to arrive in September 2026, if I recall properly.
