Every Saturday night in Liuyang, thousands of people assemble along the river for fireworks, which have been a tradition in this Hunan Province town for generations. Last Friday, October 17th, the city decided to liven things up by introducing a new touch to an old tradition: a fleet of drones that transformed the sky into a living painting. Just under 16,000 of them flew to the skies, their LEDs shining longer than any sparkler, and Guinness World Records declared it official: 15,947 drones all airborne at the same moment, controlled by a single computer.
The organizers had been planning this for quite some time, in preparation for the 17th Liuyang Fireworks Cultural Festival. You can envision the setup: a large launch location near the river, techies gathered over laptops, trying to get everything just right, and each drone no bigger than a rucksack but equipped with lights, GPS, as well as other features.
- Due to platform compatibility issue, the DJI Fly app has been removed from Google Play. DJI Neo must be activated in the DJI Fly App, to ensure a better product usage experience, please go to the DJI official website to download the App before use.
- Lightweight and Regulation Friendly - At just 135g, this drone with camera for adults 4K may be even lighter than your phone and does not require FAA registration and Remote ID. Throw Neo in your backpack or even your pocket. Just grab and go!
- Palm Takeoff & Landing, Go Controller-Free [1] - Neo takes off from your hand with just a push of a button. The safe and easy operation of this drone for adults makes it perfect for taking to family BBQs and hiking with friends.
They went off in waves, buzzing around in the distance like a swarm of beetles before settling into formation. The first sighting was of a big tree, its branches extending all the way to the sky and its leaves flashing bright green and gold. Then a flower, its petals gently spreading and each made up of hundreds of sparkling spots. Halfway through the display, the fireworks went off, as did 7,496 drones, each emitting a silent burst of light in perfect rhythm with the other drones beneath. The entire event lasted around 20 minutes, long enough to pique the interest of spectators from all over the world.
