Lotus has introduced the Emira 420 Sport as the new pinnacle of its accessible sports car range. This model brings elevated performance through increased engine output and meaningful weight reduction. Power flows from a specially tuned 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Output reaches 414 horsepower with 369 pound-feet of torque. Lotus engineers extracted this figure from the Mercedes-AMG-derived unit to create stronger acceleration and better response in the middle of the rev range.
Lotus has just called the Emira 420 Sport the quickest four-cylinder production car available, and it lives up to that promise. Drivers are shoved forward with power as the automobile accelerates from 0 to 62 in 3.9 seconds and continues to pull all the way to a top speed of an incredible 186 mph. The optional Lightweight Handling Pack reduces the curb weight to 3,153 pounds, 55 pounds lighter than the lightest Emira before it, and breaks its previous record. On top of that, you receive an extra 55 pounds of aerodynamic downforce as part of the same package, thanks to new body kit components that provide grip without boosting drag.
The ride is 5 millimeters lower than standard models, and the suspension has been adjusted to accommodate the increased power and mass. The Emira 420 Sport boasts 7 aerodynamic modifications that are not just cosmetic but also functional; a larger front splitter works with new air intakes and vents, while expanded side sills and side intakes help channel air. There’s also a louvred tailgate that cools the engine, as well as a glass roof panel that can be removed and stored behind the front seats for a more open driving experience.
