It’s official, Audi selected Sauber as a strategic partner to enter the 2026 Formula 1 season. The Swiss racing team will compete as the Audi factory team from 2026 onwards using the power unit developed by the automaker. They are currently developing the power unit, which consists of an electric motor, battery, control systems and a combustion engine, in Neuburg an der Donau
What will be different in the 2026 F1 season? Well, the power units will be more efficient than ever, as the proportion of electric power is set to increase significantly. More specifically, the electric drivetrain will have nearly as much power as the internal combustion engine with 544 hp. Plus, the turbocharged 1.6L engines are going to be powered by sustainable synthetic fuel that is CO2-neutral.
