Andrew Garcia’s Lamborghini Huracan EVO vanished in December 2023. A sophisticated car theft ring had been targeting exotic cars throughout Southern California and his was one of over 20 high-end cars stolen in Orange County.
Garcia’s story starts in Orange County, California, where his Huracan was one of the 20+ high-end cars stolen in a multi-million dollar heist. The thieves weren’t your average joyriders. They were precise and rented out supercars like Ferraris, Porsches and Lamborghinis and then forged paperwork to wipe out the original owners’ titles.

An Instagram message arrived out of the blue…“Did you sell this car?”, with photos of a Lamborghini Huracan parked in a strange location. The sender had found Garcia’s business card in the glove compartment and assumed he was a dealer with more supercars to sell.

Garcia uploaded the photographs to ChatGPT and asked where they were taken, expecting it to identify street signs, building facades, and backdrops. The data was evaluated and pointed to Denver, Colorado, which is 1,000 miles from Orange County. He then checked the AI’s answer with Google Earth, zooming in on the coordinates until the location could be confirmed, before contacting the Denver police, who found the Huracan a few days later.

Cale Gould of the Colorado Auto Theft Prevention Authority was blown away to hear someone was already using artificial intelligence to track down a stolen vehicle. “This kind of proactive intelligence gathering really helps recover stolen vehicles,” he said.
