Bespoke Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Gamer Plays Like an Arcade Classic

Rolls-Royce makes cars for people who value passions as much as possessions. This takes it to a whole new level. A tech entrepreneur handed the design team a brief: replicate the pleasure of putting a quarter in a 1970s arcade machine. The result is a Black Badge Ghost turned into the Gamer.

The entrepreneur grew up surrounded by rows of cabinets under fluorescent lights. He now collects consoles and cartridges, mementos of a time when games were raw and instant. Rolls-Royce saw an opportunity to match that passion with their own car. Designers pored over stacks of old ads and grainy footage, sketching out how pixels could be translated into leather and paint.



Outside, the body is two-tone Salamanca Blue underneath and Crystal over Diamond Black on top. That divide refers to the glow of ancient displays, where colors moved under flickering lighting. Along the coachline is a hand-painted creature known as the Cheeky Alien, a green sprite bordered by pink, yellow, and blue on either side. Each one is made up of 89 tiny squares of three millimetres each, similar to the blocky visuals of vintage space invaders. Twenty-two-inch wheels with forged black spokes roll beneath, along with matching calipers. The Pantheon grille illuminates in narrow vertical lines up front, while the Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament glows softly at dusk.



Once inside, the theme does not dominate the space because the seats are covered in black and Casden Tan leather, with stitching suggestive of classic display scan lines. The front seats have “Player One” and “Player Two” written in a blocky font, while the back seats have “Three” and “Four.” Headrests feature embroidered aliens in the same pixelated style, with 89 squares to touch. The floor welcomes you with lit plates engraved in 8-bit lettering that read “PRESS START,” “LOADING,” “LEVEL UP,” and “INSERT COIN.”


Behind the rear seats is the Waterfall panel, a stretch of Black Badge Technical Fiber that serves as a canvas for a space combat. Two stainless steel flying saucers battle over a hand-painted moon surface against a starry backdrop. Artists worked almost two weeks layering black grounds with mandarin highlights using brushes, sponges, and airbrushes. Silver particles in the surface reflect light, creating the illusion of distant explosions. When you open the back picnic tables, a metal Cheeky Alien appears on the surface, and the front air vents hide an engraved eight-bit pattern on the underside.


Up above, the Starlight Headliner reworks its magic to create a fleet of 80 battlecruisers, which are laid out in fibre-optic dots across the roof. They create a bitmap armada, preparing for launch. When you press the Shooting Star button, beams from the spacecraft will pulse in timed bursts, simulating laser fire across the night sky. The Illuminated Fascia on the dashboard transforms the Ghost’s starry panel into a “Laser Base,” complete with an 85-point-light gunship. Constellations move to give the car the appearance of cutting through space, reminiscent of cabinet art from the time period.


The same 6.75-liter twin-turbo V12 that powers the Black Badge Ghost produces 592 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque. Press the accelerator and it accelerates to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds, with a top speed of 155 mph. The combined fuel consumption is approximately 16mpg, but this figure may fluctuate depending on the driving conditions.
